GB-35-03-001 · Rotation

Point P is (−6,−5)(-6,-5). Rotate P through 90° clockwise about the origin. Write the image coordinates.

Transformations: Rotations Booklet p. 75
Method
1) Draw a North arrow at the centre on tracing paper
2) Hold the centre and turn the paper clockwise by the stated angle
3) Redraw the image
Worked Example (GB-35-03-001)
1)
Draw a North arrow on tracing paper at the centre of rotation, the origin (0,0).
2)
Trace P at (−6,−5)(-6,-5). Hold a pencil on the centre and turn the tracing paper 90∘90^\circ clockwise.
3)
Redraw the image at P′=(−5,6)P'=(-5,6).
4)
Check the coordinates: a quarter turn clockwise gives (x,y)↦(y,−x)(x,y)\mapsto(y,-x).
Ans = (−5,6)(-5,6)
